Jim,

Your idea will work fine, no lube is required it could just hold the metal
particles in the work path and be a problem. Just let them fall away.

When I do this kind of work I wear double eye protection and do not extend
the blade much further than necessary to get through the metal I'm cutting
to reduce the risk of binding.
