Post subject: Cover for 13 Whaler????
Archived from groups: rec>boats (more info?)

Greetings,

I am in need of a cover for my new (to me) '01 Whaler 13 Sport. The boat
came with a silver cover that's designed to be tied down while on the
trailer, but there are two problems with it for my purposes:

1. It's way too loose, and will collect water badly, even when pulled as
taught as possible and propped in the middle.
2. The boat is on a pole-type lift, so getting the cover strapped down under
the hull would be a nightmare.

What I need is a tight fitting cover that can be easily installed and
propped in the middle so water sheds off easily. Ideally, something that
has an elastic band in it that's secure enough to fend off high winds. My
current cover has this elastic band, but it pulls up over the rub rail with
the mildest of tugs, and certainly wouldn't stay put even during a light
breeze.

Are there any "over the counter" covers that are specifically cut to fit
this boat, or will I have to hit the savings account and have one custom
made? I'm trying to avoid having snaps screwed in the perimeter of the boat,
but we have high winds with thunderstorms around here, and I don't want the
cover flying off into the canal. I also can't have the cover fill with
water, as I'm afraid it'll break the lift.

Thanks!

OK.
You don't want to have to snug up a rope "drawstring", because the boat's
over the water when it's up on the pole lifts, and you can't walk around the
boat on the water (unless you're Jesus). Elastic may work for a while, but
you know it's going to stretch. I have two solutions:

1) Don't use a cover, but pull the drain plug when the boat's on the lift.
2) Ask some of your neighbors how they're handling this puzzle.
