Looking for information on the Corbin trawler line introduced in 1981. I
have an ad from the June 1981 issue of Canadian Yachting that shows these
inboard powered, aft pilot-house vessels, being offered in lengths from
18.5' to 33' by Corbin les bateaux inc. in Chateauguay, PQ. I also have a
brochure for the 26' version that shows the manufacturer as Trans-At
Fabrications Nautiques in Chambly, PQ.

How many were produced? Were they built under license (looks like a UK
design)? Does anyone know where I might have a look at one (I'm in Ottawa)?
Any other information would be welcome.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve,

As far as I know Corbin never built anything other than the 39' sailboat. I
did a search on the web, and there is nothing except the sailboat.

Thanks for your note Pierre. I have a feeling these trawlers were to be
imported from the UK and sold through Corbin. In the ad there's a shot of
four vessels of different lengths - looking much like some of the aft-cabin
trawler styles in the British mag 'Practical Boat Owner'. On a web search I
too came up with only the 39' sailboat. Is there a convenient place I could
post scans of the brochure & ad? Maybe someone might recognize the line
under another name.

Thanks for the Webshots tip. Brochure was faint so the scan is poor. Any
idea of the designer/manufacturer - possibly British?

I've met one of these (trwaler model in your brochure) twice, one time in
Isle-aux-Coudres and another time in the Sorel's islands. They told me they
were tied in Berthier's marina (not Berthier-sur-mer!!!). But there are 3
marinas in Berthier (Qc). I guess you'll have to go thru each of them to find
it. Can't remember the boat's name either. If you're desperate to see one, you
may wish to bring the brochure with you, then the people there might easily
direct you to the right one. It is quite a rare boat here but surely brings
attention when you see it.

Corbin did also venture in producing big 40 foot trawlers. They were very low
priced and they needed 10 firm orders to begin mass production. They never had
more than 8 but builded them anyway. They went bankrupt shortly after. Many
people here think this endeavour killed the company. I visited the demo boat at
the Montreal boat show in the late 80s then met the owner of hull #008 in
Longueuil at marina Real-Bouvier a few years ago. The boat went under the name
of "Caligula" by then. I kept the brochure but can't find it right now. If I
stumble on it this week, I'll post it somewhere and let you know.

Thanks for the helpful information Jean. I'd appreciate seeing your
brochure.
