Hi-- anyone here paddled around Cooperstown? The Susquehanna looks
interesting, and perhaps some parts of the lake. Any suggestions welcomed
(including restaurants)

I spent a weekend in Cooperstown a couple of summers ago. We paddled our
canoe just a bit down the Susquehanna. The first 1/4 mile or so is
completely flat with almost no current. Then there is a bridge that you'd
have to portage over but we just turned around and headed out onto the lake.

There's plenty of paddling on the lake and it's quite pretty though the
shoreline is lined with cottages.

The Otesaga resort (www.otesaga.com) actually has a fairly affordable
restaurant and the dinner was quite good. We sat out on the patio and the
setting was very nice. We also had a nice steak dinner at the Tunnicliff
Inn.

The Farmers museum was much better than I expected. If you like beer don't
miss a stop at Ommegang brewery. I can't wait to try their new whit beer.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

The Brewer in my e-mail address refers to my homebrewing hobby, so you can bet
I'll go check out their Wit beer!! We went to the brewery 2 yrs ago, and the
tour was terrific. I'm especially a fan of Belgian beers, so I was in heaven.
The day we were there, they were cooking mussels in their ale and there were no
other customers, so we ate our fill!!
Thanks for the paddling tips. Paul
