Hi all,

I just got the kit to convert an 1986 points ignition to an electronic
ignition. Its a prestolite system on a V8 chevy 350. Has anybody done this
conversion and did you have any issues.

thanks,
mark

If you bought the factory conversion kit, it comes with complete
instructions and an updated shift module. It only takes minutes to install
and hook up. Set the timing and you are ready to go boating.

If you bought an off-brand setup, then your present shift module may not
work correctly with it. Make sure the manaufacturer has instructions on
using the product with OMC Cobra stern drives.

Did it several years ago on a Chevy inline 6. Had to modify the cap a
little where the wires passed thru, but the rest was easy and its sure nice
never worrying about burnt points etc.

Mark,

I did it years ago to the two engines in my old boat. I did run into a
problem on occasion where the engines would run poorly after a long
run. I had a mechanic work on it and all he did was add ballast
resistors, apparently I was getting a voltage drop when it got hot. It
made the problem go away, even though Prestolite said they weren't.

I had this system in my 46' Riva. It had the tuner knob mounted below
the volume knob. It took some getting used to, my I mastered it very
quickly.
