I'm a newby bitten by the paddling bug.

Does anyone have experience hauling a canoe on a sedan type car?

I'm looking at a 16' canoe, and considering hauling it on a '98 Honda
Accord.

Comments and advice on specific carriers would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Al G

Under the bumper. There are some heavy sheet metal loops, 2 in front
and 1 in back, as Mike says. Get down on your knees and stick you head
under and you'll see them. I like to add a quick link to run the rope
through, as the sheetmetal has an edge. Not sharp, exactly, but 90
degree. You'll see.

The boat won't tilt forward if it's tied down securely to the racks.
The bow and stern ropes are for security.

No problems at all carrying a canoes or kayaks on an Accord. Both Thule and
Yakima make suitable racks for the car as do a few other rack makers. There are
tie-down locations built into the Accord - my friend's '97 Accord has one in the
rear and two in the front; I assume the '98 is similar.

Thanks.

"Tie down locations", as in to the bumper?
It looks like the racks might be 3 feet apart, and I thought that during
braking the canoe would make every effort to tilt forward. Does your friend
tie to the bow or stern?
