Post subject: Cabin fire damage repair

Hi,
I am new to this forum and hope I can get some real life information on rebuilding a Hunter 386 sail boat that has had an interior fire. The ceiling has the most damage, it is constructed of fiberglass and the gelcoat is cracked and bubbled all over. My question is after I have ground off the damaged gelcoat, what should I use in its place. Should I re gelcoat or use another type of paint. Also what should I use smooth the areas that I have ground out? I am familiar with automotive products and have done fiberglass repair with a painted top coat, but I have no experience with gelcoat. I would also like to here from anyone who has repaired a fire damaged boat regarding soot and smoke damage cleanup and sealing areas that have smoke damage that cannot be cleaned. Any info or stories would be helpful. The boat needs alot of repair and I will need alot of information in the coming months, I hope I can get some good advice here. Thanks
