I'm a US citizen considering buying a used sailboat from a private party in
Canada. What will I have to contend with bringing it across the border
into the US. Would it be better if the Canadian owner brought it across ?
Tnx

You probably would, that is pay to get US tags etc.

But why would you? Boats in Canada used or new range between 20-45% more?
You nuts? Or maybe just found someone willing to sell at US prices.

Me, going to the US to buy mine, go figure.

Well, in regard to being nuts: When I look back there are a lot of
instances when I say: "I must have been crazy." That said, it's a used
boat of a type I've been looking for, appears to be reasonably priced, and
not that easy to find.
Since this post I'ved done further investigation and it looks like, as far
as US customs is concerned it's the trailer that is the problem unless it
has a "meets US safety requirements" label on it. Unless the seller
indicates it has this label I'll probably loose interest.
