Archived from groups: can>rec>boating (more info?)

I have an old copy of Tides and Currents Pro that was sold by Nautical Software a decade or so ago.
It's old but good. Somewhere along the line my data floppy broke but I was able to copy the data.
Unfortunately, the secret files of drivers were on that disk so my copy doesn't work for installing.

I had to do a wipe/re-install and now I can't get back in. I dug around for drivers and found most
of them on another computer, but I missed something.

All by way of saying that I am going to have to replace the software. Before I do, though, I would
like to see if there is anyone around who has an old installation set for that ancient program to
sell, give, lend to me. It's not the kind of thing that anyone, even a boater, would keep around,
but my wife insists that I ask.

All best wishes,

Chuck

I don't know about that program, but there are links to a few tide
programs on my site at
http://vancouver-webpages.com/peter/idx_marine.html

I use WXTide32.

Thank you. Actually I had come across that utility and (being deprived of short term memory of
late) thought it was good and why hadn't I downloaded it? Well, I had, yesterday, and my AVG virus
program went ballistic over a buried .exe program in the file. I quarantined that copy.

It happened this time, too. I have deleted it for now. It's a self-extracting file, isn't it? And
I think the .exe program is a small setup routine. Moreover I can't imagine that Simtel would allow
anything dangerous. I really do want this program, so let me ask: Did you have any trouble? If
that .exe program is something you know about and it's safe I'll go ahead and unzip, which probably
will get AVG to quiet down.

Thanks
Chuck

The version I currently have is from June 2006 - don't recall any
problems with it, or with the installation. Perhaps your AVG program
is excessively paranoid.

You can get it directly from the author's site at
http://wxtide32.com/download.html

AVG certainly is of a sensitive disposition. Mixed blessing, but possibly we obsessives find more
blessing.

That said, I got my file back and told AVG to sit in the corner and tried to execute it and it
didn't work. Downloaded a new one and it didn't work.

I went to the site you gave me. There are two choices for download. The bottom one:
http://wxtide32.com/ccount/click.php?id=6 downloads a .zip file and there are instructions further
down on the web page for manual install, which is easy. AVG didn't turn a hair.

That is the one I'd recommend to anyone in a similar situation who doesn't mind creating a folder in
C:\Program Files\ to accommodate the unzip.

So I've got it and can begin the learning curve. Thank you for your help.

I use Xtide (http://www.flaterco.com/xtide/ ). Works great, has all the
tide and current stations you'd ever need. I don't think there's a Windows
version, though...

Yes. See Peter Bennett's second reply above. I got it and it is good - but either it isn't as good
as Tides and Currents Pro or I have become so accustomed to it that everything else seems second-rate.

On another NG I met someone who provided me with the help I needed. Thanks to all who replied.
