Year/Make/Model -- 1992 Polaris SL650.
July 4 weekend, this machine ran fine, no problems encountered. This
last week, I was running it and the engine cut out, almost kind of
like it wasn't getting gas. I opened up the seat and found smoke
coming out, I determined this to be the rubber 2" hose between the
exhaust manifold and the barrel like muffler it connected to. Looking
at the out side of the hose, it had a hole in it. On the inside of
the hose, it looked as though it was melted, yikes! I repaired that,
ran it, and in about 5 to 10 min, the engine cuts out. The one thing
I did notice was that cylinderical exhaust canister was extremely hot.
Ok, thinking that the fuel filter may be clogged, I changed that out.
Ran it again, same problem. Let it sit for a little bit of time and
it'll run for 5 to 10 min. Next, to eliminate a thermostat problem, I
yanked that out and just put a straight pipe in it's place, still same
problem. I return the cooling system back to it's original
configuration, i.e. no straight pipe, but without the thermostat and
spring acuated valve. What I noticed when I took it apart, there
were some weeds in the valve. I put it back in and I ran it, still
the same problem.
Anyone have any ideas? Do these things have a water pump like a car?
Thanks in Advance
